UK Skilled Worker Visa 2025: Can Pakistanis Still Make the Cut with the New £38,700 Salary Threshold?

£38,700 is the new gatekeeper—will your UK dream job make the cut? The Skilled Worker visa just got a major facelift, and it’s shaking up career plans across Pakistan. Here's what professionals need to know—and how to pivot wisely.

The New Threshold: What Changed?

As of April 2024, the minimum salary requirement has leapt from £26,200 to £38,700. If your job doesn’t meet this or the “going rate” for your occupation code (whichever is higher), you’re out of the running. The Shortage Occupation List? Scrapped. In its place is the leaner Immigration Salary List (ISL), which offers slightly lower thresholds (around £30,960) but applies to far fewer roles.

For most Pakistani applicants, this redefines what jobs are accessible—and which ones are slipping away.

What’s Still Possible? Strategic Moves to Stay Eligible

  1. Target ISL Jobs: Focus on the Immigration Salary List. Fewer jobs qualify now, but if yours does, you're in a stronger position with slightly relaxed income rules and reduced visa fees.

  2. Develop High-Value Skills: Specialize in areas like AI, cybersecurity, software engineering, healthcare, or civil/structural engineering—roles that tend to exceed the new salary line.

  3. Use the “Tradeable Points” System: Not quite at £38,700? If you're a PhD holder, a new entrant (under 26, recent graduate, or in structured training), you may qualify with a reduced salary threshold of £30,960 or 70–90% of the going rate.

  4. Secure a Licensed Sponsor: No CoS (Certificate of Sponsorship), no visa—simple as that. Make sure your employer is Home Office-approved and aware of the new benchmarks.

Final Word: The Path Just Got Steeper—But Not Closed

Yes, the bar has been raised, but not beyond reach. Stay updated with the latest UK Skilled Worker visa requirements, polish your CV for higher-paying roles, and aim for sectors hungry for global talent. With clear planning and bold ambition, the UK remains very much in play.
